EUR 619m - PERILS releases first loss estimate for Windstorm Éowyn

PERILS has today disclosed its initial loss estimate for extratropical windstorm “Éowyn”, also known as “Gilles”. The storm affected the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and the Central Belt of Scotland with ferocious winds from 24 to 25 January 2025.

PERILS’ initial estimate of the insurance market loss is EUR 619 million. For Ireland, Éowyn marks the biggest windstorm loss for at least the past 45 years, whereas for the UK it is the biggest windstorm loss since February 2022.
